SunRiver
Resort at Bend, Oregon
Memorial Day Weekend 1979
With the money we made from
making apple cider, collecting bottles, burning stumps, and operating
the school candy store, we were able to finance the entire senior
trip.
At SunRiver we rode bikes,
paddled canoes, swam, cooked, jogged, and watched the Seattle SuperSonics
on TV in the NBA playoffs. (The Sonics went on to win their
first--and only--NBA Championship on our graduation night.) On
Sunday, many of us got sunburned; on Monday, it snowed!
Each of the four cabins was
supervised by a pair of chaperones: Fred and Dolores Mohoric,
Hap and Sally Anderson, Ben and Anita Sandrini, and David Shough and
Cheryl Lemke, our class advisor.
Anita drove the bus on the
long trip down and back, and put up with our horrible rendition of
"Lucille." She rightfully was concerned about
being able to buy gas in remote Eastern Oregon, on a holiday weekend
during a serious fuel shortage. Not even Anita would want to
run out of gas and be stranded with a bunch of kids who had a bad
case of senioritis!
